Merle Siefken has been an educator for over 20 years, as a
teacher, assistant principal, and principal. He earned his teaching
credentials and a Masters of Art in Teaching from National-Louis
University and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership
from North Central College. Merle has also received extensive
training in School, Family, and Community Partnerships from Johns
Hopkins University, Response to Intervention, Social and Emotional
Learning, the Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act, and
Professional Learning Communities.
In 2006, Merle became the Director of the Illinois Statewide
Technical Assistance Center for Parents. Through this work, he
supports collaboration and partnerships among families and
professionals across Illinois so that the educational needs of each
child will be met.
He is married and has two school-aged children. Merle is also
familiar with the joy, anxiety, and frustration associated with
ensuring that the best education is provided for our children and
believes that the best advocate for our children is the parent.
