My name is Marilyn L. Hartwell. My husband of 40 years and I live in Southern IL. We have five biological children, six grandchildren, and are foster parents. Five years ago my husband retired from Proctor & Gamble and I, too, went into retirement for several months. I soon realized that I had more to offer my community. My foster son is 16 and has been diagnosed with ADHD, bipolar disorder and oppositional defiance. All of our foster children have had special needs. My backgound is in mental health. When advocating for my foster son, JAMP Special Education offered me the Parent Mentor position. I am also the Southern Region Coordinator for Illinois Federation Of Families. I enjoy gardening, decorating, reading and traveling. Helping others is my passion.

Tri County Special Education has received grant funding from the Illinois State Board of Education to fund this position.
