Joy Bux
Joy's daughter, Renee, has congenital myotonic muscular dystrophy, which she was diagnosed with at age 3½. Renee's challenges include low muscle tone, speech difficulties and cognitive delays. She was also diagnosed with ADHD at age 8. She has made significant progress over the years with speech, occupational and physical therapy. Renee began special education in an Early Childhood class when she was 3 years old due to developmental delay. Although Joy was not convinced this is what her daughter needed, she agreed to give it a try. After one month of the program, Renee made tremendous strides. Joy realized Renee's improvement was due in large part to the daily help she was receiving in that class! Over the years Renee has been in an integrated kindergarten program, a regular education class, and different levels of self-contained special education classes. She is currently being serviced in a 5th grade Learning Opportunities Program (LOP) where she continues to make progress academically and socially. She is a happy girl and has a great sense of humor. She loves school and the many friends she is with each day. Mentor TrainingsAll trainings are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact me above.
